Recently we have received requests on whether Shazans is halal or is actually an Ahmadi owned brand. As many Muslims consider Ahmadis as people who have left the fold of Islam, meat slaughtered will not be halal.

Shazans state their policy on their website:

Shazan’s Halal Policy

“We are a Muslim family from Preston and we are members of our local mosque Masjid-E-Noor. At Shazans Foods we only handle halal products. Slaughtering of animals and their welfare are both of primary concern to us.

• Our slaughtering requirements are very strict
• All animals are to be alive & healthy at the point of slaughter
• All slaughtering is to be carried out by hand, by a Muslim

The animals are slaughtered with a swift incision to the throat from a razor-sharp blade while reciting the Tasmiyah. Any flowing blood from the carcass is completely drained.

Muslims are taught through the Qu’ran that all animals should be treated with respect and well cared for.

Our slaughter men are highly trained to carry out the slaughter under strict welfare conditions.

We work very closely with a number of halal accreditation bodies who ensure that the sites our meat & poultry comes is treated and prepared according to specific rules set out by the Islamic faith. Shazan products only use meat & poultry from sites approved by these Halal Accreditation Bodies.

Why is Shazans in Tesco labelled with a HFA sticker and not in the other retailers?

All Shazans products stocked in Tesco stores are stunned and approved by HFA. Tesco also offer a National Halal range in selected stores that is approved by HMC.

How can you ensure the products are Halal?

In two ways. On Poultry, we are fully vertically integrated which means we control the whole supply chain from start to finish ourselves. On the small proportion of range where we do not fully own the supply chain, we buy raw material from a handful of highly respected suppliers who pass our stringent technical criteria. The second way we control our supply chain is through independent verification of our production through external Halal accreditation bodies.
