Best Oils For a Relaxing Massage
The Muslim wakes up at fajr and has a long hard-working day. From time to time, due to stress, pressure, we face tension in various parts of the body. The head and shoulder are common. We carry a lot of weight on shoulders and it takes a toll when we try to keep our head held high.
A good massage can get rid of tension and aches. It relaxes the muscles and increases blood circulation. This, in turn, allows us to relax and give us a strong and smooth outlook.
Before using any oils always read Bismillah and take refuge from the Shaytaan.
Let’s look at the different type of oils you can use.
1. Coconut Oil
One of the most commonly used oil. This type of oil is great for those who have dry or damaged hair. Its ability to penetrate skin and provide all that vitamin E makes it a wonderful massage oil. And since coconut oil is solid at room temperature, it is way less messy than liquid oils. However, you can heat the coconut oil for a warm, liquid massage oil that smells like the tropics. Coconut oil can also be used as a personal lubricant since it is completely natural with no parabens, petroleum, glycerin or chemicals. Added bonus: coconut oil won’t stain the sheets.
Coconut oil provides lubrication to the hair shafts and is believed to induce lustre in the hair. It is also useful in the treatment of psoriasis. For those who have fine hair particularly susceptible to greying and thinning, coconut oil works very well as it has natural cooling properties.
2. Almond Oil
The next commonly available, after coconut oil, almond oil is also very useful for dry hair. It is more intense than coconut oil and so can treat even the driest piece of hair. Besides, it is also useful to soothe aches and pains as well as calming nerves.
3. Mustard Oil
Mustard oil is so strong, people will smell you from a kilometre away. Yet we say that you should give it a shot – if not very often, then maybe once a month. Mustard oil is particularly suitable for the cold winter months. This is because mustard oil generates heat and is responsible for stimulating circulation and soothing sore and tense muscles as well as relaxing the scalp and increasing pliability.
4. Sesame Oil
A scalp nourisher, sesame oil also reduces stiffness and tightness in the scalp. Sesame oil moisturises the hair and also relieves the scalp of aches and pains.
5. Olive Oil
Olives are mentioned a number of times in the Quran and there is a number of hadith too. One of which is “Eat olive oil and use it on your hair and skin, for it comes from a blessed tree.” (al-Tirmidhi, 1775). Olive oil also has purifying properties that keep pores open and can be mixed with neem, which is a good cleanser, before being applied to the hair.
6. Jasmine Oil
The number one oil for dealing with stress and tension, jasmine oil is also an anti-depressant and antiseptic. It can make your hair thicker and healthier. However, jasmine oil in its concentrated form can be very harmful and hence needs to be mixed with another light oil like almond or olive before applying to the scalp.
7. Rosemary
The essential oil of this well-known herb is used to relieve rheumatic and arthrosic diseases. If used with other essential oils, the rosemary essential oil is useful in case of inflammation due to blasts of air and humidity.
8. Lavender
Lavender oil is best known for aiding people with sleep issues and anxiety, but it also may be useful if you are experiencing pain or headaches. A 2012 study found that inhaling lavender essential oil safely relieved migraine pain in the research participants. Moreover, a study from 2015 found lavender essential oil has both anti-inflammatory and analgesic (aka, pain-relieving) properties, making it a perfect essential oil for both your mental and physical health.
