Flapjacks are a very easy recipe consisting of only four ingredients. This recipe is based on 100% halal ingredients. The great thing is you can make a big batch and keep for quite some time and essentially save £££.

You'll need a large frying pan and a 20 x 20 tin.

 250 g porridge oats
 125 g butter
 125 g light brown sugar
 3 tbsp golden syrup
Optional
 3 dashes sultanas or nuts
 3 dashes choc chips
 3 dashes desiccated coconuts

Pre-heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6 and lightly butter a 20 x 20cm baking tin.

In a pan, heat the butter and sugar. Once the sugar dissolves add in the oats and mix well. After 3 or 4 minutes of mixing on a medium heat add in the golden syrup. You dont want to add the syrup to early as it will harden with the heat.

Add in the optional toppings

Add the mixture to the tin and flatten the top.

Bake on 200C/180C fan/gas 6 for at least 20 minutes on the middle shelf. Check on them after 15 minutes in case they burn. Then leave to cool for 10 minutes.
